We invite, enjoin, and encourage you to join us in investing in a community kitchen that is broadly useful, inspirational, and accessible to all. Our challenge is to raise $10,000 by the end of 2018.

This opportunity comes at the perfect time. Our community kitchen has made remarkable strides in the last few weeks. All the permitting from San Juan County for Taproot’s kitchen upgrade has been approved! We are now moving forward with septic, plumbing and electrical improvements. This will enable our WSDA-approved producers, Chicaoji and Kraut Pleasers, to get back to business, and local direct-to-customer producers, non-profits, and individuals to carry on work in an approved certified commercial kitchen.
Successfully raising $20,000 will provide Taproot the resources it needs to add a high-quality gas range and fire-suppression hood. This is our next priority, followed by a large walk-in refrigerator and walk-in freezer. We also envision development of adjacent spaces for dry storage, fermentation and aging areas, and a packaging and labeling zone.

We have a deeply supportive community, including the Taproot landlord Hal Seifert. We have strong encouragement from a long list of county agencies, agricultural organizations, and other non-profits, and we have a steady stream of people interested in doing something in a community kitchen. Our mission remains timely and salient to our island wellbeing. This is an excellent time to build out a facility that will serve our community and beyond in a very elemental way.
